As we remember our fallen American soldiers this Memorial Day weekend, we are also reminded that Christians are also soldiers fighting in the midst of a war. It’s a vicious spiritual war with an enemy more evil then all the evil dictators who have ever lived to kill and conquer—combined.
Satan’s power and evilness and relentlessness is so great that none of us could ever hope to stand unaided against him. Yet we are, according to this passage, commanded to stand, and having done all, to stand.
How can we, who have the same disease of sin that our enemy has, hope to stand in battle? By wearing the armor that God has provided for us. We’ve seen the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the sandals of readiness, and the shield of faith. Let’s look at the final parts…the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit.
